Hick Tech

I'm a big fan of the new "un-conference" style of conference. I'm really excited to be going to Mashup Camp next week in Boston, and I'm planning on attending Podcamp Toronto next month.

And today, I got an email from an old friend of mine announcing a really cool sounding conference up in the deep, dark Canadian wilderness next summer.

Well, not really that deep or that dark. Or that wild. And it certainly seems like a fun con in a great location.

Emma has announced a conference called Hick Tech. Given that it's going to be held in Owen Sound, the name is somewhat appropriate, but Emma insists that it's an acronym:

HICK == How the Internet Connects Knowledge

Knowing Emma's work, I'm certain that this conference is going to be an interesting one - I'll definitely be submitting a talk there myself. The best part is that the conference lineup (workshops and seminars) is going to be voted on by the attendees.

The whole thing has a very "un-conference" feel to it and I'm sure it'll be the best damn tech conference that Owen Sound has ever seen. (I know, that's not saying that much... but it's going to be a fun time all the same.)
